I was putting a list of artists together for someone who wanted some music recommendations from me. I figured i’d throw it up here as well. Gabe’s Gym Story

So I took my gym going to another level. I haven’t been going often… at all. So I figured I needed help if I were to expedite the degutting process. So last week I signed up for a personal trainer at the local Bally’s. I got Jen, a cute, short, bubbly girl. Oh yeah. She’s also the manager and just finished her first Iron Man Triathlon this past weekend. She kicked my ass last night. About 45min into my hour session I had to stop because the room was spinning. She said my blood sugar got too low and got me some Gatorade. I did feel better after that. Then we sat down and she said something about the food I eat… “How much did you pay for personal training? And how much did you pay for the mostacholi? Throw away the leftover mostacholi.” My choices are a) lifestyle change or b) blow it off. Both are valid.

Does anyone else get these things from Facebook “Compare People”? It’s always interesting how you’re ranked compared to others. Here’s my current standings: #1 craziest (gained 1 place) Best room-mate? Really? I’d be the worst. I’ve only lived with one person before, and it ended awful. We accidently got married one time.

Bad news

So bad news all around. Today I found out due to restructuring in the organization I was applying to, they could no longer offer me the position. I was told I was the most qualified for the role, and they’re pretty disappointed they can’t bring me on board. Last week while talking with my uber-manager, he offered to give me a new title and better responsibilities if I were to stay with his organization. This would include the title of “Systems Engineer”, the person who works on capacity planning, architecting the platform, and staying ahead of big picture items. Instead, he’s removing me from emails and phone calls and going right to Eric. What a fucking slap in the face. I’ve never felt more lied to in my life. I trusted him more than anyone else in this place, and now he’s the one I trust the least thanks to this. So I guess since any offers (that I probably would have taken, and stayed) to make my life here better are lies, I have to look elsewhere. I can’t stay where I’m purposely decieved.

Hello, Internet. I have a few topics to discuss, in no particular order. Ginny and I broke up. I’m taking it pretty hard. We were only together for comparitively a short time, but honestly it was an amazing time. She took me by the hand and walked me through so many new things. It went from me not understanding how someone could be a part of someone’s life if they were married to integrating seamlessly into not just the life of one person, but the family of two. I loved her dogs like they were my own, and I became close with her husband, Pat, who I found I had a lot in common with. I’m not going to talk about how shitty I feel, or any of the details. It’s something i’ll have to work through alone and hope that time will heal the wounds. Just know this is very odd for me. I’m usually one to bounce back from something like this, but it’s different. She’s different. Twelve people applied for the position I mentioned before. Two got initial HR interviews. I was one of the two. Then I got a phone interview with the hiring manager. And he likes me. But honestly, I don’t see why he wouldn’t. I feel like i’m interviewing to get my old job back, so i’d fit right in. And i’m damn good at what I do, when it is “what I do”. My job now is not “what I do”, so i’m not so good at it. So what does this mean? I think my time is limited in my current role. All of management knows of my intentions, and I hope they’re supportive. It’s pretty obvious that what my role has turned into has become something i’m not compatible with, so I have to move on. I’ll even be at the same company, so it should be easy for everyone. All in all, there’s a lot going on right now. So I’m sure I can use anyone’s support if you’re willing to offer it.

So like I said in a previous post, the time to complain about my job and the direction of my role is over. it’s time to start doing something to better my situation. So that time started last night when I applied for an open position in the Load balancer/unix scripting/sendmail/qmail team in Omaha, NE. Unix! I miss you! Does it sound like a great match to what I’m good at? Absolutely? Do I want to move to Omaha? Not really. But it certainly won’t hurt to discuss the opening. But you never know. It sounds right up my alley, all things i’m good at kind of rolled up into one position. We’ll see what happens…

Been a while since I posted anything, so I thought I’d say hi. Couple weeks ago I had my week off of work, and it was great. I don’t think I’ve ever had a week off like that before, and I really think it’s something that needs to happen every year. This year my focus was to work on my music. Sometimes with everything you have to do in life you never get time to do the things you want to do. So this was my time to do what I wanted to do, and it paid off. I really got a lot done and I’m excited to be sooo much closer to finishing things. I’m sure any readers of the post about me meeting the girl may be wondering how things are going. Honestly… never better. And that’s not just some spin on the topic, it really is going well. We see each other a lot, and we have a blast. When it’s not just the two of us, it’s the three of us. Pat, her and I spend a lot of time together and it’s great. I can’t say enough good things about her, so I won’t try to. Work? Not so good. Maybe worse by the day. I really think the time for me, and others I’ve talked to, is limited. People will start walking soon. I’m embarrassed to work there and I’ve started to send out feelers out in the world to see what my options may be, and I’ll see how that goes before I make any kind of decisions. I have got a couple pings back, so it’s nice to have in my back pocket for later. There’s really no reason to bitch in detail about work anymore here on my blog, or elsewhere. That time is over. Next Saturday I’m going to visit my parents in Wisconsin. It’ll be a quick trip, but that’s ok. I have enough going on here at home where I don’t need to be spending multiple days away. So that’s a quick update on my world. Hope all is well with all of you!
